We are community

We are community is a simple way of expressing our conviction that we are all connected and concerned by what happens to each and every one of us—both our successes and failures—because this inevitably has an effect on our community. And when our community is stronger, we all come out ahead. Caring about the well-being of each individual and the quality of life we nurture by fighting against the poverty and exclusion that affects so many of us in one form or another makes us all stronger, better, and richer human beings.

We are community is a vivid expression of the difference we make in the lives of others—both young and old—and the progress we make every day. Our partner agencies, committed local businesses, dedicated volunteers, and inspired citizens join with us as we all roll up our sleeves and do our part to build a community—our community—where each and every one of us can live with dignity and access the tools we need in tough times so we can pick ourselves up and look confidently to the future.

Because together,
we are possibility.

We ensure people have the basic necessities

When you lack basic necessities like decent housing, clothing, or food, it’s very difficult to build a life. Yet, thousands and thousands of Quebecers face this situation every day and are forced to focus much of their energy on simply surviving. Often, the result is discouragement, a sense of powerlessness, and low self-esteem.

Fortunately, as a community that cares about the well-being of all of its members, we can make a difference. Through the agencies and projects we support all across Quebec, we create possibilities to rekindle that vital spark. Providing someone with food, clothing, and shelter means giving them access to the basic conditions they need to turn things around. It gives them the chance to catch their breath, look ahead, and see opportunities instead of obstacles. It’s a chance to move forward.

We support young people’s success

Life is like an obstacle course: one false start can compromise everything. That’s why it’s important to take action early. But how? By fostering the development of toddlers and encouraging young people to finish school... and realize their dreams! And also by supporting the families who raise them, because being a parent isn’t always easy.

Not everyone is born with the deck stacked in their favor. And daily life can be a delicate balance. Sometimes a few missteps is all it takes to nudge someone down the wrong path. Dropping out of school, addiction, homelessness, anything can happen and, without help, getting back on track can be a real challenge. Through the agencies and projects we support all across Quebec, we create possibilities for those in need—and, ultimately, our community—to turn things around for the better. Whether it’s an attentive ear in hard times, a word of encouragement in a moment of doubt, or a helping hand in a time of need, gestures like these can make a difference today and help lead to a better future.

We break the bonds of social isolation

Societies that encourage each and every citizen to take their place and play a role thrive more than those that isolate and exclude. What sets these societies apart is their willingness to embrace everyone, from seniors and immigrants to people with disabilities or mental health issues. These societies know how to go beyond prejudice and judgment to recognize and nurture the potential of every individual, no matter what their differences or limitations. Nothing feels worse than being ignored or rejected. And there is no better feeling than feeling accepted and useful to others.

Through the agencies and projects we support all across Quebec, we create possibilities to recognize the value of each and every person and to encourage them to believe in their abilities and learn anew to forge relationships.

We build communities that bring people together

We may all be individuals, but we depend on each other, and we’re always stronger together. It’s a fact we all too often forget in our increasingly hectic lives. The “everyone for themselves” mentality may have certain advantages, but its limitations quickly become obvious. “We’re better together” has a much brighter future! By helping shape neighborhoods and regions to reflect people and their needs, we are weaving, piece by piece, a strong social fabric that links and benefits us all.

It’s true: by supporting community life, encouraging volunteer work, and consolidating the skills and leadership of agencies on the ground, we create networks of solidarity powerful enough to move mountains, change lives... and maybe even transform our world!
